Uh oh.

It is starting to sink in that there is nothing going on in the sports world that I even remotely care about except for Baseball. It is still a long way until football and the drama of the NBA draft and a .500 Giants squad just can not satisfy my sports cravings. This is trouble. I may have to resort to actually (gasp) playing a sport for the next several weeks. I'm beginning to sweat and get back spasms just thinking about how I'm going to endure this dry spell.

Someone in the NBA better make a big trade soon or I'm going to go nuts.

Clint, good to have you back. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

Unless, of course, you disagree with me.

Everytime I think about playing a sport I go lay down. The only time that is a problem is when I forget to locate the remote first. I have been a Giants fan for some time, but there for awhile (8 years in Everett, WA) I gave the Mariners a shot, and outside of a couple of years of some success I thought that was a way to go. Then the really bad year. Then another. The 49ers are another story. Living in 49er country for years, and all those championships. Well, it has been brutal.

1989 seems like ages ago. 1989...the Battle of the Bay
San Francisco Giants vs Oakland A's...the earthquake series. Got the sweatshirt hanging on the wall outside my office door.

Basketball...don't care. Lost me years ago.

Aussie rules football....now there's a sport. Hitting..and no helmets.

Odds and Ends

I don't have time this week to do a recap of last weekend and it is almost the next weekend anyway, so I'll just toss a few things out there: 1. Are people fired up about the baseball playoffs? Are there any compelling stories? Howard with the Phils I guess, maybe. I don't know. Maybe I'm just still bitter about the Giants, but I can't get into it. 2. Speaking of the Giants, why is no one talking about the fact that in September, with his knee finally recovered, Barry is hitting balls out like he was when he was allegedly juicing. Doesn't that cast even more doubt on the whether we should care if these guys are roiding? I'm not saying it doesn't matter at all, but maybe the reasons it matters have nothing at all to do with stats or performance...at least with Bonds. 3. More great NFL matchups this weekend. I'm really looking forward to Chicago and Seattle on Sunday night. Can the Seahawks win with Hasslebeck throwing 45 times? I think we ...
SOME PLAYOFF OBSERVATIONS I just took a welcomed brake from preparing for trial to watch the Miami v. Detroit game 3. Obviously this was a huge game for Miami and the next one is just as big, but I’m not chiming in to break down the game, but rather to offer a few observations about both the series going on right now. 1. Why do Antoine Walker’s coaches allow him to shoot so many 3s? If I were coaching him, I would tell him that if he ever shot a 3 that wasn’t wide, wide open or if his 3 to drive ratio fell below 5-1, he would sit the bench. Walker is an incredibly talented player and when he attacks the rim both he and the Heat are a much, much, much better team. When you play defense like a matador, you better do more than just miss a bunch of 3s on the other end. He was great tonight just because he took the ball in. It’s not complicated, so why is it so inconsistent? 2. What happened to Gary Payton? He was one of my favorite players for years and years after leaving OSU and playing ...

Some quick thoughts

A few quick sports thoughts for you today: I don’t understand why people don’t talk about how much Tyler Hansborough looks like a really tall Frodo Baggins. Also, why does he have such a bad haircut? I think the teams in the Western Conference should be afraid of Denver. They are playing as well as anyone outside of LA and Melo hasn’t even started playing well yet. What if this is the year that Nene and Kmart actually stay healthy and Karl becomes a big game coach? Oh yeah, forget everything I just said. Oh well, at least the trade helped Billups on my fantasy team. I can’t figure out why the Blazers don’t throw lobs to Oden. There is no play where this is even attempted. Yeah, he is still getting his legs back and doesn’t jump out of the gym, but he jumps well and is 7 freakin feat tall. Do the Blazers (other than Sergio) not know how? Does coach Nate hate lobs? It seems like Oden could get 8 points a game just by either running to the hoop on pick and rolls like Tyson Chand...
